Shelf Esteem 10: The "this is my favorite library in the world" edition

I am not going to do my normal format for Shelf Esteem today. I was over at the Meg's blog for Pigtown Design and saw this picture. It might be my favorite personal library of all time. I might need to throw in a couch if there isn't one there already, but otherwise I think this room is the bee's knees.

Where is it? And can I easily get there along with a sofa of my choice?

Oh my god....my life goal is to have a library like that. Stuff the sofa, just get down there on a bed of books..*sigh*

If it was MY library I could say, indeed, I've read all the books. Many more than once.

You realize we have an addiction !

Love this space, & yes need the couch.

What a terrific library -- for a moment I didn't quite believe it, the whole thing looking so in focus that I started expecting a bit of the old photoshop to have been involved. The filename led me to John Hopkins University's website, where they provide a nine minute video of professor Richard Macksey's library.

So, if anyone else wants to see more, hop over to A rare collection(jhu.edu)

His library makes my constant ambivalence to my own library's size flare up: it's a warning? It's an ambition! Meanwhile I've started lining books along the wainscoting ...

If my house doesn't look like this in 70 years' time, then I'll have failed in my life's work.

Heaven, sheer heaven.

Well, I see now that I should perhaps have watched the video I linked to before making any claims about it. It's not really 9 minutes of his library, but mostly former students and colleagues talking about what a splendid fellow and teacher he's been.
There are some nice shots of the library in there, but not very many.

Fabulous! And I just imagine that the photo was taken from someone sitting on the couch.

Wow, I think that room is maybe as big as my entire house. I kinda want to tidy it up a little though. Which is odd, because my own house isn't all that tidy.

Oh my. Yes. I'm close to speechless, but this one is definitely a winner.

How does he/she gets upstairs? The stairs seem to be full of books!

A few things about this photo make me particularly happy (besides the BOOKS). One, comfortable chairs and a wee bit of open table space. Two, aisles that are still walkable. Three, the sliding library ladder converted into more bookshelf space (see it, over on the far right...!). Four, the book room's patron saint (whose portrait is that, I wonder?). I could go on.

One last note - this room bears a striking resemblance the first floor of John Doull's bookshop in Halifax, N.S.
