Sunday Painting: Alameda Gran Torino by Robert Bechtle

Alameda Gran Torino (1974)

  1. Oh my goodness - one look at this painting and I am instantly transported back to the early 1970s when our family took the station wagon on an adventure across Texas to the YMCA camp in Estes Park, Colorado.

Our car was a Buick - and it wasn't green but brown - but this image is close enough to jar those distant memories out of hibernation.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

  2. Why do I now have the Brady Bunch theme song in my head?!? Thank you, sir. :)

  3. Molly: We had one that looked just like this but it was a Chrysler Town and Country. And we took it on many a camping trip. And not a seat belt in use.

Susan: Doesn't it though? It is hard to remember when cars like this were new (and smelled new).

  4. We had one very similar to this one. I'm not sure what "brand" it was but I remember me and my sisters used to sit in it and play airplane!

  5. I've seen this painting many times. It looks much more like a photograph in person than it does here. Maybe that has something to do with the paintings actual size vs. the smaller size here.

We also had a station wagon very much like this one. One day the engine caught fire.
